Game/Journalism?

I started a new study last September at the ROC Rijn IJssel. Camera Journalism. I already know how to work the camera and the difference between an awesome or crappy shot, but I’m totally blank about journalism. That has to change! But in order to change that, I’ll have to find myself a field of expertise.

Meanwhile, Matt discovered recently that his interest for games went a bit further than just playing them. So he’s over looking his options to become a real game developer at this moment. Luckily I find games interesting too, because elsewise I wouldn’t have a clue what he’s talking about all the time! I find myself reading into games and the developments it’s been trough over the years. And It’s quite interesting.

So I started wondering. Could I combine these 2 entirely different fields together somehow? I mean, you don’t mention games and journalism in the same sentence very often, do you? But then I thought it trough and maybe there is a way. I mean, new games need publicity. Won’t they? And positive reviews lead to better sales-numbers, don’t they? So maybe I can find a way to combine the two!

But I don’t want to focus myself on the newest games. I like the old ones much better, like the Arcade games. I like the old consoles and I like the pixel-ish 2D graphics. Maybe I can use journalism to research the old ways and reflect them on the present. Because people started re-inventing Old Skool gameplay and graphics i little while ago, and I must say I’m very intrigued by the developments. Also I’d like to write about meetings like the Arcade Game meeting at Mediamatic, Amsterdam, which we visited 2 times now. Also I’d like to participate in events like the Global Game Jam, as an journalist of course.

I think I’ll give it a try, maybe it’ll be a success 😀
