So, what’s it you’re looking for?

If you got this person, smart and funny. One that’s awesome and playful but serious and responsible as well. One that really understands the way you feel, both good and bad. One that will always listen to you and will support you, even if you are wrong. Someone that respects you and thinks you’re perfect, no matter what. who wants to take care of you and will go that extra mile to make you smile. Someone who won’t just agree on everything you say. One who challenges you. One who is willing to wait for you, no matter how long it takes. Someone of whom you think is beautiful. Who has the same expectations of the future. Who will always be there for you. Who wants to be your friend, your lover, your family, your shelter. Tell me, if you find that boy or girl, what more is it you can possibly be looking for?

I know I would never, ever let that guy go. ‘Cause I know he’ll be worth every hard moment, every argument and every sad situation.

So find the goddamn thing you’re looking for and come back to me.

50 reasons not to date a graphic designer

A friend of mine found this list on the www and it really made me laugh! I am a designer, got the degree and everything, so lets see which things apply on me. The thick sentences are the ones I’m familiar with. Let’s see if I’m a real designer or just crazy :’)

1. They are very weird people.
2. There are billions of them in the world, like colors on the screen of your computer.
3. They will analyse conversations in layers.
4. You will spend the day assembling furniture from IKEA.
5. They drink and eat all kinds of weird shit just because they like the packaging.
6. They hate each other.
7. You’ll come out the last out of the movies because you have to see the full list of credits.
8. They cant change a light bulb or without making a sketch.
9. They fuck up all the tables with their cutters.
10. They rather study the paisley pattern on your outfit than listen to what you have to say.
11. They will fill your house with magazines and whatever is out there that has drawings.
12. You never know if it is really an original or a copy.
13. They make collages with your photos.
14. They do not know how to add and subtract, they just understand letters.
15. They idolize people who nobody knows and speak of them as if they were his colleagues.
16. They take pictures almost daily and all are cut in weird shapes.
17. They ask your opinion about everything but  they do whatever they want.
18. Everything is left justified, right or center unless they arrive late.
19. They hate Comic Sans with the same passion they love Helvetica. (not Helvatica, perce, though)
20. They use iPhone for everything, because everyone has one.
21. You can not decorate the house without consulting them.
22. They steal street signs.
23. Always carry their hands painted with something.
24. They buy dolls unfinished for them to paint.
25. Everything becomes something other than what it really is: cards as tickets, cards as …
26. When arguing, you will be nicknamed like the OSX spinning wheel (not affectionately)
27. Do not know how to dress without consulting the Pantone book.
28. They hate Excel.
29. They read comics.
30. They want to save the world only with a poster.
31. You will spend the day brainstorming.
32. On vacation they will take you to countries that you do not know exist and have no beach.
33. Museums are their second home.
34. They know more positions than the Kamasutra.
35. They can’t go to a restaurant without secretly critiquing the menu design.
36. They listen to music you have never heard of.
37. They can´t cook a normal dish, they always have to experiment with new ingredients.
38. They read rare books: stories of children, Semiotics …
39. When you are going to tell you something, everyone has read it in their facebook and twitter.
40. They have own iPods before you knew they existed.
41. The orgasm they remember is when they heard that Adobe was acquiring Macromedia.
42. They have their own shops just for them and there are the most expensive in the city.
43. They want to spend all the money in the Apple Store.
44. You will never understand their gifts.
45. They see ordinary objects and laugh.
46. You wake up in the middle of the night hearim them screaming “When is the deadline?”
47. They see CMYK and RGB like Neo sees the Matrix.
48. They dream of the day nobody will make a single change to their designs.
49. They rather pay for a font than for a special birthday gift.
50. They are always sleepy because they work 24/7.

11/50. There’s still hope!

The birthday cake

My boyfriend turned 21 last Monday and as I wanted to surprise him with more than just something you can easily buy at a store, I baked him a cake!

not baked, specifically, it had to be cooled instead of heated. Anyways..

I bought 4 chunks of different colored marzipan, a chocolate bar, 3 ready-to-use flat cakes, jam, sugar coating, fruit sprinkles and those cute tiny silver eatable balls.

STEP 1 Okay,, First I made the cake itself. Out of each cake I cut a circle of the same size. Before I piled them up I put jam between them so you got cake/jam/cake/jam/cake. I made sure t piled them neatly so the side would look nice and smooth. Then I put the cake into the refrigiator.

STEP 2 Then I took out the marzipan. I used the wooden rolling pin to flatten the marzipan enough so I could cut out the necessary shapes easily. This took quite a while and in the meantime I melted the chocolate in a little pan which stood inside a bigger pan containing boiling water.

STEP 3 As soon as I finished with the marzipan I took a toothpick which I dipped into the molten chocolate. With that chocolized toothpick I drew the lines in the marzipan. I must say I thought it would be easy to draw the chocolate lines but it turned out quite different. But I’ve seem to have done a okay job.

STEP 4 As I waited for the chocolate to dry I prepared the sugar coating. Also, I put all the fruit sprinkles on a tray, ready to use. I took the cake out of the refrigerator and smeared the sugar coating all over the side of the cake. Then I took the sugar coated cake and rolled the side trough the fruit sprinkles in the tray. This way the fruit sprinkles would stuck to the sides of the cake. Last I took some left over sugar coating and smeared it on top of the cake like a kind of glue to keep the marzipan top in place. As finishing touch I placed the silver balls and tataaa.. A birthday cake was born!

Last night, like every other Tuesday, me and the other Stam members got together at our clubhouse in Groessen. It were a slow night though, only 5 of the 13 who normally attend were present. Didn’t stop us from enjoying the evening though!

We decided to play an old board game, Monopoly.

We really had fun once the game got really exciting! I came to the conclusion that it is worth the money to buy the electricity and water companies and try to avoid one person possessing all the stations. Also that Hotels are a bitch and you spend basically all your time counting your money.

Obviously, I totally lost but I had a great time watching Dominic and Thijs V bugging each other while Rik quitly build way to much hotels and Thijs D and me nearly hitting rock bottom and got lucky at the last minute.

Just some pictures of last night

Getting started

Still got some money!

Got to this part of the board? You’re fucked..

..about 3 hours later

Arnhem has (finally) opend the new train station and one of the greatest improvements is the stores. We already had an Albert Heijn 2 go and a Smullers but now we also have a gift shop, Etos, HEMA, Julia’s and there’ll be a StarBucks opened next month. I love it!

As of last week I’ve been an employee of Julia’s Arnhem. Julia’s is a kind of restaurant who provides the costumers with a healthy Italian pasta, great coffee or delicious ciabatta’s. All according to Italian recepies and made with only the real fresh Italian ingredients (all the ingredients are actually made in Italy).

So, I met this guy on the internet last summer. We talked a lot to each other on chat and later on we also started texting. It felt strange so way. I mean I didn’t know this guy or even met hem for real. All I knew where the conversations on chat, the texsts and the pictures he’d posted online. But for some reason I felt like I could trust him, tell him stuff and that he’d be there for me if I needed him to. He knew, even without knowing me, how to put a smile on my face. I liked him for that.

So 4 weeks back we decided to meet. I where really nervous! I didn’t know what to expect and where afraid I’d be disappointed. I wasn’t. It turned out to be a really nice day together and as it ended I didn’t want him to go actually. I liked him. I hoped he liked me too.

We kept texting over the weekend and I couldn’t decide weather I had to ask him to hang out or not. I just couldn’t decide, just didn’t want to screw this up. clearly I didn’t screw up and he liked me too, ’cause I’m very please to inform that we’ve been dating ever since! I’m still amazed by his looks every time I see him, just can’t believe he has actually chosen to be with me! We have so much fun but we can also discuss the more difficult subjects. It just feels right..

Yesterday he took me to diner. I really enjoyed it! We went to a restaurant called “Ask The Chef” which is basically a sushi restaurant. We ate wonderfull sushi and I taught Mark how to use chop sticks, he did really wel! We had loads of fun! After the sushi we went to House of Billiards to play Pool together, I really sucked so he won 6 to 2. It where a great night and I hope there’ll be more nights like that in the future.
